The Henry

Army Flying Museum Trip

Recently, two Year 8 maths classes had a great day out visiting the Army Flying Museum in Middle Wallop. The museum houses a large collection of original aeroplanes and helicopters, charting over 100 years of the British Army in the air. With over 35 fixed wing and rotary aircraft on display, it was perfect place for students to explore the fascinating history of British Army aviation.

The students took part in various Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) activities, including learning marshalling signals to communicate with planes in the air, and taking part in an ‘engine-building’ workshop to better understand the mechanics of the aircraft. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to see some of their STEM subjects in action.  Some lucky students even saw some Chinook and Apache helicopters fly over the airbase during the guided tour.

All in all, it was a fantastic school trip that gave Henry Beaufort pupils the opportunity to learn about the engineering of flight, and to immerse themselves into the exciting world of aviation.
