  • Section 8 Ofsted Inspection March 2023

    Published 13/06/23

    PRESS RELEASE – DATE – 13th June 2023

Section 8 Ofsted Inspection March 2023

The Henry Beaufort school continues to be a ‘good’ school.

The school’s high expectations for students remains a constant thread from its previous inspection report in 2017 and students are ‘happy and proud of their achievements’.

    Sue Hearle, Headteacher stated;

‘‘I am pleased that the Inspector has recognised that our curriculum is broad and provides interest for all of our young people. Our five-year curriculum is acknowledged as a strength and learning is supported by the expertise of our teachers.

The work the school has undertaken to secure high-quality provision for personal development is also recognised including our ‘high quality’ careers guidance.’’

The school has two action points:

    1. Curriculum Mapping.  Students have a curriculum map in their exercise books that details the five-year learning journey for each subject they study.

The focus for the action point is to increase the detail in the curriculum maps.

    1. Ofsted consider the Ebacc GCSE subjects as the most ambitious GCSE pathway for young people.  The Ebacc [the study of english, maths, science, history or geography and a language] is not a qualification and does not impact on entry to any university.   Although the school’s Ebbac entry is 2% above the national average it does not meet the government target.

The school is to encourage more students to take a modern foreign language to GCSE level.

Sue Hearle stated ‘Ofsted have recognised that we are an inclusive school, and that our inclusivity goes well beyond our significant academic success. Our ethos is centred on preparing our young people for the complexities, the challenges, and the excitement of opportunities beyond the school gate.

We are committed to continuing that journey, sustaining what we already do well, rising to the challenge of strategic improvement and continuing to be an important and successful presence in our local and wider community.’

  • Technology Competition

    Published 17/03/23

On the 21st February a team of year 9 students from both Design and Technology and Engineering were invited to take part in a competition at the very prestigious Winchester college.

The competition was made up of a selection of schools from Winchester College to Portsmouth and the surrounding areas.

The students were given a strict timeline in which to design and manufacture a full sized, and functional chair.  The chair was to be made entirely out of corrugated card, use no glue or tape, be as light as possible, attractive as possible, comfortable as possible and hold the weight of a full-grown adult.

Henry Beaufort had two teams of three all of whom fully embraced the challenge, creatively engineering and designing a solution to the problem.

The completed items were then evaluated and tested using rigorous testing criteria.

Mr Brown Teacher of Design and Technology said “I am delighted to say that out of the 8 teams Henry Beaufort came a very credible seventh and second, being just pipped to the post by a Team from a school in Portsmouth.

I am incredibly proud of Team HB, who really showed their creativity and innovation, not to mention teamwork and a phenomenal work ethic.”

  • Hearing Dog Visit - 25th January 2023

    Published 27/01/23

Look who came to visit us!  North, a trainee Hearing Dog was the centre of attention at a talk given by his Trainer to our D/deaf students.  We learnt all about how North is being trained to alert his new owner to sounds which will keep him safe and then, as he will be working for a teacher, he had a quick tour to get used to all the sights and smells of a school.  He was brilliant as were all our students.

North is being trained by the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People https://www.hearingdogs.org.uk

    Childrens Health

Please find below information from Hampshire County Council.

Due to current pressures on the NHS, we have been asked that schools promote the Healthier Together resource for parents to get advice and guidance about their child's health and well-being.

Please could you send the attachment below to all parents today and add this to the front pages of your school website, if it is not there already. This is a useful resource to signpost to for all health and well-being information, with the pathways having been developed by clinicians.

Attachment to be shared with parents and on school websites: STAY IN CONTROL OF YOUR CHILDS HEALTH

Healthier Together should be the first point of call for parents. The platform has a number of accessibility functions: when touched, the text will be read aloud; parents may select their country's flag and all the pages will be translated into their language; and the font size can also be increased.
