In The Henry Beaufort School Mathematics Department, our aims are to:
The Mathematics course covers five different strands: Number, Algebra, Geometry, Statistics and Ratio. Students will study a variety of topics in each of these strands as appropriate for the tier of entry that will be examined at the end of the course.
Entry Level Certificate in Mathematics
Our Entry Level Certificate in Mathematics has been designed specifically to complement the GCSE (9-1) Mathematics, enabling lower attaining students to develop the underpinning mathematical skills and understanding to provide a progression route to GCSE Mathematics. This qualification is offered to specific students in Years 10 and 11. Students will have the opportunity to gain either: Entry Level 1, 2 or 3 Certificate in Mathematics.
Students will be entered for either the Higher or Foundation tier paper depending on the most suitable route for the student.
All papers will assess students’ ability to solve a variety of mathematical problems, both in familiar and unfamiliar contexts.
Students will be required to show their calculations clearly and present coherent explanations and justifications of their solutions.

Component 1: Non-calculator test
Component 2: Calculator test
Component 3: Task (Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3)
Both internally assessed and moderated.
Higher Tier: Edexcel
Foundation Tier: Eduqas
Higher: 3 terminal examination papers (1 non-calculator, 2 calculator)
Foundation: 2 terminal examination papers (1 non-calculator, 1 calculator)
